it's hard to imagine treating a child that way- it makes me feel sick. On a lighter note, I hope you guys are having the best time! I keep imagining what you must be doing! Can't wait to see pictures when you get back, rested and refreshed.

This is a sad story, but there is an air of sensationalism around it. For instance they make a very big deal that she only weighed 49 pounds at 6 years old. 49 pounds at 6 years old is well within the normal range. Her other children are also described as mentally retarded and she is on the edge, which makes me think there is a much greater biological/familial factor than the newspapers and Oprah are indicating.
