Cinco de Mayos and graduations and how your vagina can get you into trouble.

Oh, yes.

I know someone who had an abnormal pap smear and has to have her cervix biopsied. Scary stuff; if it were me, I'd be freaking out. She's really worried that it's an awful procedure, really painful and whatnot. I imagine that it's easier to worry about that than to sit and think about the outcome. I mean, I KNOW that everything will be fine. Jesus and I have already talked about it. But if I was in that situation I probably wouldn't feel so sure of myself.

I know someone else who has spent a lot of time telling herself that things will get better, and trying to have faith in someone who continues to let her down. I know that feeling- how that little fluttery thing that happens in your stomach can make you put up with large amounts of intense pain in your head and heart. I just hope that things get better, way better, from here on out, no matter what "better" turns out to be.

I hope that both of these girls know that I'll be there if they need me, through thick or thin, all the way to the outcome and on to the other side of it.

Tell your friend it's not time to worry. I've had I forget how many of these biopsies. Seems there were several years where every pap smear I had was suspect. The biopsy doesn't hurt (though I can't say it's a lot of fun), and the vast, VAST majority turn out to be nothing. --Aunt Suzie

Did you know that cervical cancer, and most abnormal pap smears are caused by an STD? Also it is the same STD that causes genital warts. Cheers!

Actually it is the human papillomaviruses (HPV), which there around 100 or so of. I believe that the ones that are at higher risk for developing into cancer are the ones that do not cause genital warts. HPV is pretty common and it really isn't anything to be embarrassed about. Most cases seem to clear up on their own and do not lead to continued abnormal pap smears.

On another note, I wonder where the phrase "through thick and thin" originated from. Is it a reference to good times (thick) and bad (thin)? Hmm...

Hmm... it seems that the thick, may be a thicket or dense woods, and thin is grasslands...and that this may be an equestrian reference. Hard to ride through thickets; easy to ride over grasslands. Original meanings of everyday phrases: Weird.

That almost made me cry ... and then I saw that STD comment and I thought to myself, "Wow. There are some STRANGE ASS BASTARDS on the internet."

my sister has cervical cancer caused by hpv, and she only had one sexual partner- her husband. And she never had a single symptom, i.e., no warts. Doesn't seem something to say "Cheers" over.

For anyone who is confused about HPV I recommend visiting the Centers for Disease Control website: http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/STDFact-HPV.htm
